A common problem people get when they have not used their bike for a few days or weeks is a flat battery, some people have alarms fitted that can also put more drain on the bikes battery. A problem that can occur here is if your bikes battery gets too drained it can become damaged and it's time to purchase a new battery.
Well what can be done? you could attach a regular motorcycle battery charger but then you stand the chance of overcharging the battery if left on too long and that could be even worse!
I used to be in this position until I found this product (And there are now quite a few others on the market) now I simply park my bike and plug in the Optimate (I use the additional plug adapter that fits into the accessory socket on my Triumph) and the Optimate keeps my battery in perfect condition.
When you purchase the Optimate it comes with two sets of leads for connecting to your bikes battery, one set is the usual crocodile type clips that you find on most battery chargers, the other set are loops that allow you to connect the leads directly to your battery and then you simply connect the Optimate to the other end. These are useful if your battery is difficult to get access to.
This is a great product does exactly what it says it does, it keeps my bikes battery in top condition and I never have to worry about the battery being flat from non use.
"The Optimate is a compact totally automatic battery charger supplemented by additional battery condition monitoring circuitry, whereby the user is constantly informed of the battery condition or status. It can remain safely connected over long time periods whilst automatically charging with voltage sensing/control hence no overcharging. It also detects and indicates damaged batteries by conducting regular automatic tests on the battery's rate of self discharge 'at rest' and indicates the battery status clearly by colour coded LED's."
Plug adapter:
The plug adapter allows the Optimate to be connected though the accessory socket that can be found on most Triumph's and BMW's, this makes for easy installation and disconnection. The leads costs an extra £9.
