K & N Air Filter

I like most people like to find ways on saving money and if I can improve my motorcycle in some way at the same time, all the better!

My Triumph Sprint ST is nearing 12,000 miles so is due for it's major service. One of the items that requires replacement is the air filter. I decided to replace it myself with a K & N Air filter, it costs around the same as the OEM part but never needs replacing again and is designed to be a stock replacement for the OEM part, so it was just a case of removing the petrol tank, unscrewing the four screw that hold the filter inside the air box, remove the old filter, insert the K & N and refit everything. Voila!

The only maintenance you have to do with any K & N is to wash, dry and re-oil the element every 30,000 miles or 12 months or so.

As well as saving money in replacement air filter's the K & N filter also allows the bike to breathe a little better and in doing so you gain about an extra 1 1/2 BHP at the top end on the Triumph Sprint ST. Obviously this figure can vary from bike to bike, but if you are considering tweaking your engine one of the first things to replace is the normally restrictive original exhaust and air filter.

Some dealers may be unable to find the Sprint ST listed on their parts listing, it's the same part as fitted to the Triumph Daytona 595/955.
