Breakfast Ride

Back

My stomach was rumbling, it had been over 2 weeks since we had gone out for a ride and eaten the obligatory breakfast and ridden a few roads, the only problem was it was bloody cold, still at least it was dry (for now)

Bob did his usual thing and telephoned and emailed everyone in the vain attempt to drill up some encouragement but most people had more sense and duly gave their excuses.

So the day started with myself (Rig) Bob and Chinny trying to decide what to do, where to go and obviously where to eat eventually it was decide to have a quick ride out to our latest favourite eating place in Handsacre and mull it over while in the warm and consuming vast amounts of fried food.

After attempting to consume our combined body weight in sausage and bacon (and almost winning) the idea of a nice gentle ride towards the peak district was hatched and duly executed in expert military fashion. OK who am I kidding, we made it to the bikes with our bellies bursting and eventually made our way onto the A515 towards Ashbourne.

Just north of Ashbourne on the B5035 is Carsington Water, an excellent place to stop due to it's exceptional visitor centre and cafe. This place is well worth spending some time at, there is no charge at the visitors centre and it also has a few shops selling souvenirs and craft items etc. A nice restaurant and cafe and of course toilets (I knew I should not have drank all that tea)

Once back on the bikes we headed for Mattock Bath and another excellent cup of tea at the Mining Museum (another place to have a look around) before stopping yet again (Did I say it was bloody cold?) at Matlock Motorcycles to have a look about.

One thing that has to be said is the cafe at Matlock Motorcycles is amazing, complete with a large projector playing loads of motorcycle videos the cafe also has quite a few display bikes dotted around to look at if you get bored with the videos.

After spending a hour here it was starting to get late (well it was January and it get's dark early, did I mention it was also very cold out?) so we jumped on to the A6 towards Derby, then headed south on the A38 and home, just in time for tea.
